After finishing up in Copper Harbor we headed down to the visit the Adventure Mining Company for a mine tour. This mine is located in Greenland Township and was operated between 1850 and closed down in 1920. The mine is open regularly for various tours available for visitors that range from an hour and a half to a more advanced 5-6 hours tour that includes rappelling down into the mine. The stop and the tour was well worth the time for stopping in.

While on our way down M26 to visit the mine we needed to stop take a break. I spotted a POTA park on the way, US-1534, Twin Lakes State Park that was directly on our route. The park is located on a small inland lake, Lake Roland. The park features a good sized parking lot and well over a dozen picnic tables. The parking lot is just a short walk of less than 50 feet to most of the picnic table. This park was another easy in and easy out park to activate. We activated the park on week day and nearly had the entire park to ourselves besides a few fisherman putting their boat into the lake.

The weather had overcast and started a bit chilly. Today’s band of choice was 20m. We were at the park activating for less than an hour and made nearly 40 contacts. Over all this was a great park to activate!

’73 and POTA on!
